The Glowing Granny Square

Experience

The evolution of the 1970s granny square has seen clothing and home textiles recently redesigned and shared with the world. The granny square was a practical, thrifty way to use up small amounts of scrap yarn, and in this artwork, we have used many fabric items destined for the scrap bin. Old and worn out high visibility clothing and other fabric items
from op shop ‘free bins’ have been cut up and crocheted into neon squares. Workshops were held at Nelson Women’s Centre, where finger crocheting of fabric panels were lovingly made.
